DAY 2: Bwindi – Gorilla Trekking

Wake up early in the morning and have breakfast. You will have to go with your packed lunch, because you might spend a full day with the gorillas. You will walk to the park office for briefing by your guides. Then you will set off to your expedition. Bring jungle boots and rain jackets because the park is often wet. Hiking through the impenetrable forest is so rewarding because you will come across other primates, butterflies, birds, flora and fauna that before you meet the gorillas.
Tracking the gorillas requires some level of fitness due to the fact that you have to climb the hills in order to encounter the gorillas. It’s quite tiresome but breathtaking when you come face to face with the great mountain gorillas. They are watched at a distance of 5 meters, you will enjoy the close view of adults feeding, grooming and resting as the youngsters frolic and swing from vines in delightfully playful display. It takes about 2 to 8 hours of tracking or less depending on where the gorillas were the day before.
The mountain gorillas can’t be found in zoos but only in Africa where a few are still surviving. After your memorable time with the gorillas, you may choose to stay in Bwindi area to see the Batwa on a village trail for the evening entertainment and African story telling or instead drive to the romantic Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale for a relaxing moment with the sights and sounds of the birds at Heritage Lodge or Arcadia Cottages. This will actually make your safari memorable. Return to your lodge for dinner and rest.
